About how often do crabs molt? Does it vary with species, or not? I got a Halloween Moon Crab several months ago, but he hasn't molted yet.  Very Happy

Mr. The Admin's hermit crab molted recently. At first he thought it died.

Breaking news! My hermit crab changed his shell last night right after I got home, so I saw the whole thing. I noticed a weird blue blob on the side of his abdomen, so I looked it up this morning. Apparently it's a molt sac, used to store water and nutrients while the hermit crab is underground molting. This means he is going to molt soon! Hermit crab eyeroll

My crab (Frank) that is molting, had no molt sac when he buried himself. Probably from malnutrition, sadly. Sad

Even more breaking news! My hermit crab has been lying around for a couple of weeks with his shell sitting inside a much larger shell, which is weird. Just last night, he finally buried himself. Just today, he has come to the surface and seemed to be wanting food. He has since received some. I'm wondering if his molt may be complete? scratch
